As work continues to modernize and expand the downtown Los Angeles Convention Center, city officials said Monday they have lined up 13 organizations to hold their annual conferences in the city.
According to Mayor Karen Bass, 13 organizations have chosen LA directly because of the center’s expansion project. The conferences are expected to bring more than 103,000 people to the city, and deliver a more than $242 million boost to the local economy, according to the mayor’s office.
“Our expansion and modernization of the LA Convention Center is driving new economic growth and increased tourism to Los Angeles, bolstering our ongoing investment to revitalize Downtown LA,” Bass said in a statement.
“I am grateful to the city Tourism Department and our partners for their success in driving business to the city,” Bass added.
The following conferences are scheduled to be held:
— 2029: National Association for College Admission Counseling;
— 2029: American Chemical Society;
— 2030: Specialty Coffee Association;
— 2031: American Heart Association Scientific Session;
— 2031: American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology;
— 2031: American Immigration Lawyers Association;
— 2032: Association for Financial Professionals;
— 2033: Educause;
— 2033: American Heart Association International Stroke Conference;
— 2034: Health and Fitness Association;
— 2035: American Society for Human Genetics;
— 2036: Health and Fitness Association; and
— 2036: Leading Age.
The 13 groups join other organizations that selected the downtown convention center for their conferences, such as the American Speech-Language Hearing Association in 2031; American Geophysical Union in 2032; and the International Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Conference in 2037.
“We are seeing an incredible uptick in convention bookings directly tied to the expansion announcement,” Chief Tourism Officer and Executive Director of the City Tourism Department Doane Liu said in a statement. “Major organizations are signing long-term commitments, ensuring Los Angeles remains a premier global destination. We look forward to welcoming these groups to our expanded and modernized facility that will match the world-class status of our city.”
Adam Burke, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board, added that meetings and conventions are a driver of the city’s visitor economy.
“These commitments demonstrate that investments in the Los Angeles Convention Center are already strengthening our ability to compete for the world’s largest events. As organizations make decisions years in advance, their confidence in Los Angeles reflects the strong partnership among the City, the Convention Center, and our visitor industry,” Burke said in a statement.
