Two big rigs collided Wednesday on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway in La Crescenta, spilling cargo, shutting down all lanes and sending three people to a hospital.
The crash was reported at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday at Pennsylvania Avenue. All westbound lanes were shut down, with some traffic allowed through in the center divider. By mid-afternoon, westbound traffic on the 210 was being diverted onto the southbound Glendale (2) Freeway.
At least one of the big rigs overturned and dumped its load onto the freeway.
Three people were taken to a hospital, according to a report from the scene that showed cargo spilled onto the roadway and two badly damaged semi trucks.
At one point during the traffic nightmare a person, possibly contemplating a jump, was reported to be standing above the freeway near Honolulu Avenue, according to a CHP incident log.
An earlier truck fire that spread to brush farther west on the 210 also shut down all westbound lanes in the Sunland area, but three lanes were later reopened.
