Signs of smoke at a Perris post office prompted an investigation Wednesday by Riverside County firefighters, who found there was no danger.
The smoke was reported at 2:47 p.m. Wednesday in the Redlands Avenue Post Office at 778 S. Redlands Ave., near East Seventh Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said several engine crews were sent to the location, where an unknown number of staff had evacuated the premises without injury or complications.
Firefighters later verified there were no flames, and the smoke was due to a malfunctioning HVAC circuit, according to reports from the scene.
Most fire personnel left the scene a short time later. However, one engine crew remained after 3 p.m. to confirm there were no further hazards and ensure technicians were en route to make repairs.
The cause of the malfunction was under investigation by the U.S. Postal Service.
