Firefighters were battling a brush fire in Mead Valley Saturday that briefly threatened buildings and prompted evacuations.

The fire was reported just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the 20200 block of Masoncrest Drive, burning at a moderate rate of spread, according to the nonprofit wildfire-information service Watch Duty.

Law enforcement personnel were requested to assist with evacuations, and additional air tankers were requested for an air attack on the blaze.

As of 1:24 p.m. the forward rate of the fire was stopped and all air attack craft were released from the scene. The fire’s size was initially reported at around three acres, but was later sized at 10.8 acres.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
