A four-vehicle collision heavily backed up eastbound traffic on Interstate 10 near Blythe Monday, which resulted in officers running traffic breaks and requesting multiple flatbed tow trucks.

The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 4:22 p.m. Monday.

Two black SUVs suffered major damage in the crash, according to the CHP traffic incident log.

An ambulance was dispatched to the scene. Further information about the injuries were not immediately available.

First reports indicated three vehicles were blocking travel lanes, though dispatch logs were quickly updated to confirm four vehicles were involved.

The Blythe Fire Department and two tow trucks were notified and dispatched to assist with medical response and vehicle recovery.

The Blythe Police Department was also requested to the scene to assist with retrieving dogs involved in the incident after local animal control was found to be closed for the day.

Officers temporarily shut down eastbound travel at State Route 78 and conducted traffic breaks from Mile Marker 141 and Mesa Drive to safely clear the scene.
