A brush fire scorched about 25 acres of vegetation near the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass Wednesday, prompting evacuation warnings but not causing any injuries or structural damage.
The fire was reported around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday near Getty Center Drive, north of the Getty Center museum. Multiple water-dropping helicopters were dispatched to the scene to help douse the flames.
The Getty Center was closed earlier than scheduled Wednesday afternoon due to the fire.
The fire’s progress was stopped around 6:10 p.m., but evacuation warnings remained in effect as approximately 185 LAFD firefighters stayed at the scene to extinguish remaining hot spots and begin cleanup efforts, according to the department’s Lyndsey Lantz.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
