Motorists will face a weekend closure of the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in Long Beach beginning Friday evening, Port of Long Beach officials said.
The freeway will be fully closed at Anaheim Street from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. The southbound Shoemaker Bridge connector and offramp to downtown Long Beach will also be closed.
Southbound motorists will be directed to exit at Anaheim Street-East and use Long Beach Boulevard to reach downtown and other destinations to the south.
Southbound trucks will be detoured via the San Diego (405) Freeway or Pacific Coast Highway to Alameda Street, then to the southbound Terminal Island Freeway to reach the port complex.
The northbound Shoemaker Bridge, which connects downtown Long Beach to the northbound 710 Freeway, will remain open.
Signs will be posted throughout affected areas to direct motorists, according to port officials.
The closures are part of the third and final weekend detour associated with a construction project to remove ramps that once connected the Shoemaker Bridge to the north harbor area in West Long Beach. The ramps have been closed since May.
