A portion of the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway is scheduled to be closed for a few hours this weekend, and motorists are being urged to plan alternate routes.
The closure is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, affecting the northbound 101 from the Santa Ana/Golden State (5) Freeway to just north of Fourth Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The closure will also affect the transition road from the westbound (Pomona) 60 Freeway to the northbound 101, along with the northbound 101 on-ramps at Whittier Boulevard and Fourth.
The CHP, working in coordination with Caltrans, stated that the closure is necessary to provide a safe environment for personnel working within the freeway corridor and to protect motorists.
Drivers traveling north from East Los Angeles and the Whittier area were advised to use northbound 5 as an alternative route.
Motorists traveling westbound on the 60 were advised to remain on the westbound San Bernardino/Santa Monica (10) Freeway or use northbound 5, depending on their destinations.
Authorities warned that motorists should expect increased traffic and delays on each of the freeways in the vicinity, as well as the surrounding surface streets.
Motorists were encouraged to check Caltrans QuickMap for current traffic conditions before traveling.
