A $10,000 reward was reinstated Tuesday for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of those responsible for the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man at a Palmdale park nearly four years ago.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion Tuesday by Supervisor Kathryn Barger to renew the reward in the unsolved Nov. 1, 2022, killing of Jacob Matthew Taylor.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunfire about 12:45 a.m. at Marie Kerr Park in the 39900 block of 30th Street West. Deputies found Taylor suffering from gunshot wounds in the park’s parking lot, according to Barger’s office. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to investigators, a fight had broken out among a group of people gathered in the park’s west parking lot after hours. About 10 minutes after the fight ended, unidentified suspects drove into the parking lot in a pickup truck and opened fire on the crowd, authorities said.
“Jacob was only 19 years old when his life was violently taken, leaving his parents, siblings and grandparents with broken hearts and suffering unimaginable loss,” Barger said. “Four years later, his family is still waiting for justice. I’m hopeful this renewed $10,000 reward will encourage someone with information to come forward. Even the smallest detail could help investigators solve this case and bring his loved ones the answers they deserve.”
The Board of Supervisors originally approved the $10,000 reward in September 2023, but it expired that December. Tuesday’s action reinstated the reward as sheriff’s homicide detectives continued investigating the killing and seeking additional leads.
Anyone with information about Taylor’s killing was urged to contact Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau Detective Michael Haggerty at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477) or lacrimestoppers.org.
