The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The woman was identified as 25-year-old Brittney Jene Barnett, said coroner’s Lt. Fred Corral.

The two shootings were not related to each other, but both may be gang- related, Garrido said.

Earlier Monday, a double homicide was reported about 2 p.m. near the intersection of West Florence and South Vermont avenues, Officer Jane Kim of the LAPD said. The two men, one in his 30s and the other in his 20s, were both shot, and died at a hospital, Winter said. Their names were withheld, pending notification of their relatives.

About an hour later and several blocks away, another person was shot at West 65th Street and South Vermont Avenue, she said. That person was hospitalized with stable vital signs, Kim said.

At least one injury shooting per hour was reported in the area throughout the afternoon, Lt. John Jenal of LAPD’s 77th Division said. One person was shot in each of the incidents and taken to an area hospital, he said.

One shooting was reported near Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue, another at South Normandie Avenue and West 54th Street and one more at a street somewhere near Vermont Avenue, Jenal said.

Another person was hurt by gunfire just before 8 p.m. at South Normandie and West Manchester avenues, Jenal said. The victim in that shooting was taken to a nearby hospital with the help of a civilian, the lieutenant said.

The incidents are not believed to be related, but some of them may be gang-related, Jenal said.
