Costa Mesa resident William Rowland, Jr., died at UCI Medical Center at 12:19 a.m., according to the Orange County coroner’s office.
Rowland had been transported to UCI in critical condition following the 7:30 p.m. Friday accident at Yorktown Avenue and Education Lane, said Huntington Beach police Sgt. David Dereszynski.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it appeared a 2004 Nissan Sentra driven by a 64-year-old Huntington Beach man was westbound on Yorktown when it struck the pedestrian in the roadway, Dereszynski said.
The driver remained at the scene where he was interviewed and released, the sergeant said. No citations or arrests have been made.
“Investigators would like to speak to anyone who might have seen the events leading up to and including the collision,” Dereszynski said. Anyone with information was asked to call accident investigators Robert Barr at (714) 536-5666 or Tai Huynh at (714) 536-5670 or call (714) 960-8825 after hours and on weekends.
