A man shot himself to death Saturday night in the parking lot of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station.

Lt. J. Munson of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station confirmed that homicide detectives and the coroner were investigating the shooting death of the unidentified man as an apparent suicide.

The shooting was reported at 10:24 p.m. in a public parking lot at the sheriff’s station at 780 N. San Vicente Boulevard, at the intersection with Santa Monica Boulevard.

The deceased man called the sheriff’s station from the parking lot and said he was going to shoot himself before he fired the fatal shot, Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez said. Deputies responded to the parking lot and found the dying man.

The sheriff’s department did not disclose if the victim gave a reason for his suicide or explained why he shot himself in the parking lot of the sheriff’s station. The man’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

According to the preliminary investigation the victim suffered a self- inflicted gunshot wound to the upper body.

Paramedics did not take anyone from the scene, Pickett said.
