Police Monday shot to death a domestic violence suspect who had shot and wounded a woman at a home in South Los Angeles.

The incident occurred about 2 a.m. at 81st Place and Budlong Avenue, said Sgt. R. Grant of the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street Station.

“A domestic violence situation escalated into an officer-involved shooting,” said Grant. “The officers are fine.”

The suspect shot at the officers and they returned fire, said LAPD Officer Sara Faden. He was treated at the scene by Los Angeles city firefighters but succumbed to his wounds, police said.

A woman in the home was shot and wounded by the suspect and transported to a hospital with stable vital signs, Faden said.

An adult son was uninjured, Grant said.
