Firefighters dispatched to a vegetation fire outside a boarded-up home in Harvard Heights discovered a deceased person, a fire official said Monday.

The discovery was made about 10 p.m. at 1111 South Harvard Blvd., said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey.

“Firefighters arrived quickly to find shrubs and debris burning intensely within a temporary security fence that surrounded a long-vacant home,” Humphrey said. “While battling the blaze, a firefighter discovered a burned person outdoors among the debris, who proved beyond medical help,” he said.

“The flames were quickly extinguished before the boarded-up residence or nearby homes sustained any damage. No other injuries were reported,” Humphrey said.

The age, gender, identification and time of death of the deceased person will be determined by the coroner’s office.

The LAFD and Los Angeles Police Department are jointly investigating the death, Humphrey said.
