A 63-year-old man was killed when he crashed his speeding Porsche into a stopped Toyota sedan, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The fatal crash occurred at La Cienega Boulevard and Stocker Street at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, said CHP Officer Kevin Davis.

The Los Angeles man was driving his 2005 Porsche Carrera northbound on La Cienega Boulevard in the right lane at a high rate of speed when he attempted to turn eastbound on Stocker Street, Davis said.

A 25-year-old man from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, was stopped in a 2014 Toyota Avalon on westbound Stocker Street east of La Cienega Boulevard in the far left lane, the officer said.

Due to its high rate of speed, “the Porsche collided with a raised concrete island, crossed the median and collided with the Toyota,” coming to rest in the westbound turn lane of Stocker Street, Davis said.

The Porsche caught fire and became fully engulfed, he said, and the driver suffered fatal injuries.
