A suspect has been hospitalized in stable condition after a deputy-involved shooting in Compton, authorities said on Thursday.

The suspect was one of two believed to have been involved in an attempted robbery at what a videographer at the scene described as a check- chasing business in the 700 block of Compton Boulevard.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department public information officer Nicole Nishida said deputies were driving in a nearby alley when they saw two men wearing ski masks, running away from them. Nishida said one of the men turned toward the deputies and was then shot.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, Nishida said.

The incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, and the second suspect remained at large, Nishida said.

No deputies were injured in the shooting, and the wounded suspect was in stable condition, she said.
