Assault and other felony charges were filed Friday against a man who was shot after allegedly going into a guest house in Van Nuys and threatening to kill the resident, then hitting him with a glass measuring cup during a struggle.
Grachia Nalbandyan, 25, of Glendale, is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 7 on one count each of assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats and attempted grand theft auto, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Nalbandyan is accused of entering the guest house Monday and threatening to kill the man, whom he did not know. Nalbandyan allegedly hit the man with a glass measuring cup during a struggle and then headed toward the main house.
The victim retrieved his handgun, followed Nalbandyan and told him to leave while firing warning shots into the ground, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Nalbandyan — who allegedly threatened again to kill the man — was shot once in the hip before trying to take a car to escape, authorities said.
If convicted as charged, he could face more than seven years in state prison.
