
Authorities on Friday identified a 21-year-old man who died after a shooting in El Monte that left another man injured.
His name was Jose Manuel Valenzuela of Riverside, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Valenzuela died at a hospital following the shooting at 12:49 a.m. Monday, according to the sheriff’s department.

“Detectives learned both victims were passengers in a vehicle parked on the 2600 block of Sastre Avenue when two suspects approached on foot and fired into the vehicle at the victims,” Deputy Crystal Hernandez of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau said. The suspects then fled, she said.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives were assisting El Monte police with the investigation.
The shooting took place on a cul-de-sac in a residential neighborhood, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, which reported the wounded victim is a 29-year-old El Monte man who was sitting along with Valenzuela in the rear of the targeted vehicle.
