A 42-year-old woman was arrested on Saturday for suspicion of felony child endangerment in Alhambra after her unattended 20-month-old child was freed from a locked car with an internal temperature of 111 degrees, police said.

Officers were dispatched about 2:15 p.m. to Park Elementary School at 301 N. Marengo Ave. to investigate a report that the child was left unattended in the vehicle, which was locked with its windows rolled up, for approximately 30 minutes, according to Alhambra police.

“Luckily, school staff intervened and rescued the child, who was crying and suffering from dehydration,” according to a police statement.

The child’s mother was found waiting for other children in the school office, police said.

“We used a digital temperature gauge and determined that the temperature in the vehicle was 111 degrees,” according to the statement.

Firefighters took the child to a hospital for observation and the Department of Children of Family Services was notified and will conduct and investigation, police said.
