The 17-year-old son of a man who was stabbed to death at his Pico Rivera home was arrested Sunday, along with an 18-year-old man, after the two were detained in a Montebello park, authorities said.

The boy and 18-year-old Jesus Adame were detained in a park by Montebello police, said Deputy Amber Smith of the Los Angeles County Sheriff‘s Headquarters Bureau.

According to sheriff’s online jail records, Adame was arrested at 4:10 a.m. and was booked at 9:50 a.m.

The victim’s son had been wanted for questioning as a person of interest after he left the the scene of the fatal stabbing early Saturday in the 3700 block of Oaklawn Lane, according to the sheriff’s department.

Deputies sent to the family’s home at about 1:35 a.m. on Saturday on a report of a robbery found the mortally wounded victim, who was identified by the coroner’s office as 50-year-old Sergio Gutierrez.

His son was believed to have been driving his family’s silver 2000 Infiniti when he left, a deputy said.

Adame is due in court in Downey on Tuesday, according to sheriff’s records. The same records show that he had been arrested on Sept. 1 by sheriff’s deputies on suspicion of carrying a concealed dagger. The case was rejected by the District Attorney’s Office and he was released on Sept. 3, according to an operator in the Sheriff’s Inmate Information Center.

Mila Gutierrez, who rents a room behind the house, told a reporter at the scene that she heard a man screaming in Spanish, “He wants to kill me.”

Neighbor Christopher Esparza, who also spoke to reporters at the scene, said authorities have responded to the home for domestic disturbances about five times and that he had seen Gutierrez argue with family members in front of their house.

“They kicked him out a few times too,” he said.

Another neighbor, Maria Elena Alvarez, spoke highly of the Gutierrez family.

“Very nice people,” she said. “We are shocked.”
