A man in a speeding luxury SUV led California Highway Patrol officers on a pursuit Monday morning from the Glendale-Pasadena area to the Angeles National Forest and back to Lakeview Terrace before spike strips forced him to stop, a CHP officer said.
The pursuit began at 12:48 a.m. when the SUV was observed speeding in the Glendale-Pasadena area, CHP Officer Peter Bishop said.
Pasadena police were notified of the speeding vehicle by the Glendale police helicopter, but the CHP had taken on the pursuit before they could become involved, Pasadena police Lt. Art Chute said.
The vehicle was eastbound on the Foothill (210) Freeway and got off in Arcadia to turn around and go westbound on the same freeway, Chute said.
The driver of what a witness described to City News Service as a BMW X5 SUV was reported at speeds of 100 to 125 miles an hour on the Foothill (210) Freeway through Pasadena, through Little Tijunga Canyon into Angeles National Forest and back to Foothill Boulevard west of Osborne Street where the pursuit ended at 2:13 a.m., Bishop said.
There was no word whether the vehicle was stolen.
