No robberies were reported in Arleta, Panorama City, Sylmar, North Hills or Mission Hills last week, the head of detectives at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Mission Station said Monday.
“Frankly,” I can’t remember another week when that happened, not even Christmas week,” Lt. Paul Vernon said.
Over the past month, the number of robberies per week ranged from five to 14 — averaging seven per week, he said.
A quarter to a third of all robberies are what police call “court case robberies” — crimes in which a shoplifter fights with store security guards. Vernon said police classify that as a robbery instead of a burglary or theft.
So far this year, 219 robberies have been reported in the area patroled by officers assigned to the Mission Staition, down from 238 the year before.
