The California Highway Patrol shut down the San Diego (405) Freeway near Long Beach Airport early Monday morning after a transient pulled a weapon on another during a dispute at a roadside encampment, police said.

It happened after midnight in a transient encampment next to the San Diego Freeway at Lakewood Boulevard, Long Beach police Sgt. Megan Zabel said.

“One pulled a weapon on the other and left the area,” Zabel said.

Police had the CHP shut down both sides of the San Diego Freeway from 12:49 a.m. until 1:38 a.m. while they searched for the suspect and the weapon, but neither was found, she said.
