Gutierrez, who is not eligible for the death penalty because of his age, would face a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.
Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty against Adame.
Prosecutors allege that Gutierrez, 50, was attacked by his son and Adame in his home early Saturday.
The two are accused of stealing cash, credit cards and the family vehicle from the residence. They were picked up in a park by Montebello police, are being held without bail and are scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 7 in a Norwalk courtroom.
A third suspect, a juvenile, surrendered at the sheriff’s Pico Rivera station but was not immediately charged.
