It was reported at R & S Complete Auto Repair, 520 W. Ralph St., shortly after 6 a.m., according to a dispatcher at the Verdugo Fire Communications Center.
Firefighters gained the upper hand on the flames within an hour, and prevented the blaze from spreading to adjacent homes.
Some firefighters remained on scene to douse hot spots.
