A suspicious package that forced the brief evacuation of one floor of the Criminal Courts Building in downtown Los Angeles Friday turned out to be a box of cell phones, according to authorities.

The box was discovered around 10:30 a.m., Deputy Guillermina Saldana said. The third floor of the Temple Street building was evacuated and the sheriff’s arson and explosives unit was dispatched to the scene, Saldana said.

“The arson squad reported the package was a box of cell phones that was left unattended, and the all-clear signal was given,” Saldana said.

According to the building’s security office, operations had returned to normal by around 11 a.m.
