A burned body was found Monday at the scene of a rubbish fire near a middle school in Northridge.

The remains were discovered about 7 a.m. in the 19300 block of Lassen Street, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Norma Eisenman of the Media Relations office.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the outdoor fire, and notified police that a body was at the location. The person’s gender and age were not immediately known, and it was unclear if foul play was involved in the death, according to the LAPD.

The body was discovered in a tree-lined area near the south side of the Nobel Middle School campus. Classes remained in session, though students in a campus building near where the body was discovered were relocated to a different building, according to the Los Angeles Unified School District.
