Two people were in custody Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the hit-and-run death of a wheelchair-bound man in the Pacoima area, authorities said.
Manuel Dejesus Segovia Gonzalez, 40, of Pacoima was crossing Terra Bella Street just east of Cayuga Avenue about 8 p.m. Sept. 26 when he was struck by a vehicle that kept going, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Gonzalez was dragged around 100 feet. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Tatiana Cacho, 24, of Pacoima, and Christian Olvera, 23 of North Hollywood were arrested on Monday afternoon a few blocks from where the victim was fatally injured, the LAPD reported.
Cacho was booked on suspicion of felony hit and run and was being held in lieu $50,000 bail. Olvera was booked on suspicion of being an “accessory after the fact” and was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail. No court dates were set.
A 2005 Cadillac SRX believed involved in the hit and run was impounded as evidence, police said.
“Leads from the community were instrumental in locating the suspects,” police said in a statement. “The media coverage was viewed by anonymous witnesses who reported the leads, culminating in the … arrests.”
Anyone with more information on the case was urged to call the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8000.
