A man has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot by a California Highway Patrol officer in Artesia early Saturday.

The shooting occurred in a supermarket parking lot on the 17400 block of Pioneer Boulevard at 1:30 a.m., CHP Sgt. Maria Ingram said.

ABC7 reported CHP officers had intervened in a fight in the parking lot where  one of the combantants was wielding a baseball bat.

The officer who fired the shot or shots was attached to the CHP Santa Fe Springs division, Ingram said.

The circumstances were under investigation, and no identification was available for either the CHP officer or the victim, she said.

No CHP officers were hurt, Ingram said.
