A worker was seriously injured by an electrical shock in a subterranean vault under the Metro headquarters building in downtown Los Angeles on Monday.

The worker was shocked around 1:15 p.m. in the building at 1 Gateway Plaza, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The worker, who was conscious when he was taken to a hospital, suffered burns and an arm injury, but another worker in the vault was uninjured, Humphrey said.

It was unclear what type of work was being done in the vault and whether the workers were employees of Metro or a contractor.

The cause of the electrical shock was not immediately known.
