A hate-crime investigation was continuing today following Thursday’s discovery of racist graffiti at Bellflower High School.
However, it was unclear if a noose found hanging from a tree at the campus on the same day — and another noose found at Mayfair High School in Lakewood on Wednesday — were connected with each other, or with the discovery of the graffiti, according to the sheriff’s department.
The graffiti included a swastika and a slogan targeting black people, sheriff’s officials said.
Students held a march at Mayfair High School today to demonstrate their opposition to racism.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Mayfair High School beat its football rival, Bellflower High School, 28-14 last week.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Martin Acosta told The Times he was not aware of any generalized school rivalry, and he believed the nooses — but not the graffiti — were possibly related to Halloween.
