A man used a broken glass bottle to chase a woman down a street with a broken glass bottle, and then stabbed her several times to death, police said Saturday.

The attack was at about 7:50 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of West 36th Place, said Los Angeles police officer Sally Madera of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.

That location is two blocks west of USC, but campus police said there was no apparent connection to the school’s staff or students.

amedics rushed the woman, about 30 to 35 years old, to an area hospital, where she died from her stab wounds, Madera said.

The suspect was detained for an unrelated offense at around 11:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of La Salle Avenue and West 35th Street, LAPD Sgt. Carlton Brown said.
