A male teacher at Highland High School in Palmdale was in custody Wednesday on suspicion of sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy enrolled in a special needs program at the school, authorities said.
Aaron Alvidrez, 28, of Lancaster was arrested at his home on Tuesday, and was being held on $325,000 bail, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported. He was expected to appear in court Wednesday in Lancaster.
Alvidrez, who was working at Highland High as a “long-term substitute teacher,” is facing possible charges that include committing sodomy on a minor, oral copulation on a minor and meeting a minor for the purposes of committing a lewd act, the sheriff’s department reported.
The crimes allegedly occurred in September in Alvidrez’ car and in a classroom at the school at 39905 25th Street West, the sheriff’s department reported.
On Monday, detectives from the sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau opened an investigation into allegations of child molestation involving the teacher and unidentified student. They presented their findings to the District Attorney’s Office the following day.
“The student had disclosed to school officials that a teacher at the school had sexually assaulted him on several occasions during the month of September,” according to a sheriff’s statement.
