A former Los Angeles police officer was sentenced Thursday to four years in state prison after pleading no contest in connection with an attack on his estranged wife.

Jose Robert Figueroa, 29, pleaded no contest to one count of injuring a spouse, with an allegation of infliction of great bodily injury, according to Deputy District Attorney Sam Ahmadpour.

Figueroa, then an LAPD officer, went to his estranged wife’s apartment in May, choked her to the point of unconsciousness and tied her up, according to the prosecutor.

He has remained jailed since his arrest May 19 by the Inglewood Police Department, according to jail records.
