Authorities believe they have contained the danger created by a leak from a listing refueling barge at the dock used by the Catalina Express in Long Beach.
The barge began taking water around 11 p.m. Wednesday, Long Beach Fire Department public information officer Jake Heflin said.
The barge is used as a secondary fuel dispenser for the ferry, with a line connected to a 20,000-gallon tank, Heflin said.
Heflin said he believed the line was shut down before any significant amount of fuel escaped.
“We don’t anticipate any problems that would cause harm to the environment or harm to the port,” Heflin said.
Heflin said the barge leak was being investigated.
