A 23-year-old Lawndale man who fired numerous shots from his property was wounded Wednesday by sheriff’s deputies with a special weapons team, who had him surrounded with sharpshooters.

Travis Herr was shot outside a side door at the home in the 4200 block of 164th Street about 2:20 p.m. and taken to a hospital, where he had stable vital signs, authorities said.

“He had multiple weapons … shooting at deputies, residents, vehicles,” sheriff’s Public Information Officer Nicole Nishida said.

It was unclear why Herr was shooting, but he will face charges of attempted murder on a peace officer, authorities said.

No one else was injured in the standoff, which started about 12:40 p.m. with reports of gunfire coming from the house. Some nearby homes were evacuated.

The northbound and southbound off-ramps from the San Diego (405) Freeway to Hawthorne Boulevard were closed during the standoff.
