A man was shot in a hand and a leg Wednesday morning as he walked on an Atwater Village street with his girlfriend, police said.

The shooting was reported at Tujunga Avenue and Magnolia Boulevard at 1:17 a.m., said Sgt. Season Nunez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Station.

“The victim and his girlfriend were walking when they were approached by a vehicle,” Nunez said.

There were two men inside, and one asked the man where he was from but opened fire before the victim could answer.

The man suffered gunshot wounds to the hand and leg and was taken by paramedics to Cedars Sinai Medical Center for treatment, she said.

The suspects fled the scene.  The shooting is considered gang-elated because of the words shouted before the shots were fired, although that area is not known for gang activity.
