Two lucky drivers escaped with only minor injuries after their cars collided on a twisting mountain road in the early hours of morning and then slid down an embankment, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The crash took place on Glendora Mountain Road near Glendora Ridge Road about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, said CHP Officer Tony Polizzi.

One of the cars fell about 250 feet and the other just 20 feet, Polizzi said. Both cars were left over the side of the road until daybreak before the operation to hoist them back up to the road.

The cars involved were a black Acura Integra and a black Mazda Miata, Polizzi added.

The two drivers suffered minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment, he said. Their current condition was unknown.

The crash remained under investigation by the CHP, Polizzi said.
