Los Angeles Police Department traffic officers will conduct a crosswalk safety operation Thursday night, along with increased patrols to be on the lookout for motorists driving while impaired.
The crosswalk safety operation will be conducted from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Alvarado and Sixth streets, according to the LAPD. Officers will be on the lookout for pedestrians and motorists who fail to obey the traffic laws regarding crosswalks.
At 4 p.m., an eight-hour DUI saturation patrol operation will begin in the city’s Central area.
At 6 p.m., the same type of patrol will begin in the city’s Olympic area.
Funding for the extra patrols — along with driver’s license checkpoints that are also conducted from time to time — was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
