A man described as a transient stabbed a student’s father in the neck outside a Lincoln Heights high school Thursday, but the victim was not seriously injured and the suspect was arrested, police said.

It was unclear what sparked the attack, which happened about 1:45 p.m. on the sidewalk outside Cathedral High School in the 1250 block of Bishops Road, Los Angeles police Officer Drake Madison said.

Madison said the victim suffered a minor poke wound from a knife and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect, who was unknown to the victim, was quickly taken into custody, he said.

A campus secretary said the incident prompted a 20-minute lockdown at the school. Students were released about 2:30 p.m.

The suspect, whoss name and age were not immediately released, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, according to the watch commander at the LAPD’s Central Station.

A knife was recovered, the sergeant said.
