A woman believed to be in her 50s was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Hollywood (101) Freeway as she apparently tried to run across the roadway, authorities said.

The fatal collision on the southbound 101, near the Silver Lake offramp, was reported at 5:40 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Polizzi said.

The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of kin.

The driver who hit the woman stopped at the scene, Polizzi said.

No stalled vehicles were seen in the area, according to the CHP, so it’s unclear why the woman ran across freeway lanes, he said.

The incident shut down the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes.

The crash tied up freeway traffic for miles. A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 6:05 a.m., according to Polizzi.

The freeway was cleared at 8:46 a.m. and the SigAlert was canceled, Polizzi said.
