Authorities sought public help Wednesday to solve the killing of a 76-year-old man who was beaten by a man in East Los Angeles during a struggle over a bicycle.
Santos Castro was attacked about 8:30 p.m. Aug. 18 in front of a Carl’s Jr. restaurant in the 5600 block of Whittier Boulevard, and he died at a hospital, according to the sheriff’s department.
The suspect, described only as a male, was caught on security video taken inside the eatery prior to the beating.
Sheriff’s officials said the suspect punched Castro several times in the head, knocking him to the sidewalk. Castro was taken to Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center, where he died.
“I miss my husband very, very much. I miss him,” Leandra Castro said. “I don’t know why they did that to him. I can’t be without him. He was such a good guy. He was so good.”
Santos is also survived by three sisters, four brothers and seven children.
Anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff’s department at (323) 890 5500.
