Police officers in Pasadena on Sunday fired one shot at a driver, who had pulled a gun during a routine traffic stop. The driver was briefly chased but escaped into the night.
The shooting occurred during a routine traffic stop for a traffic violation about 3:20 a.m. near Avocado Lane and Estado Street, said Pasadena police Lt. Pete Hettema. No identification of the driver or vehicle was available, other than it was a dark-colored SUV.
“At least one of the officers walked up to the car and saw it (a handgun),” Hettema said. “He took off at a high rate of speed and one of the officers fired one shot as he drove off. I don’t know if the suspect was hit.”
Officers pursued the vehicle for a short distance, but lost sight of it in the vicinity of Sierra Madre Boulevard and the Foothill (210) Freeway, according to a news statement from the Pasadena Police Department.
No officers were injured, Hettema said.
Pasadena police asked anyone who witnessed the shooting to call them at (626) 744-4241.
