A hostage being held inside a barricaded residence in the unincorporated Westmont area was released unharmed Tuesday night, but the suspect remained inside.

The male hostage was released around 10:15 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Crystal Hernandez said.

The area around the residence on 109th Place between Normandie and Vermont avenues was evacuated.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to location at 5:37 p.m., said Deputy Amber Smith.

They learned that a hostage situation was going on from a 911 hang up call.

Negotiations with the suspect were continuing, Hernandez said.

“The suspect is still inside, and we are trying to have him surrender,” Hernandez said.

CBS2 reported that the hostage is a son of the suspect.
