A sheriff’s SWAT team on Wednesday arrested a burglary suspect who had been hiding in a Paramount home tented for fumigation, authorities said.

Deputies went to the 15700 block of Verdura Avenue about 5 a.m., said Lt. Tim Milliman of the sheriff’s Lakewood Station.

A SWAT team was sent to the scene, along with hazardous-materials crews, and authorities surrounded the residence.

Late this morning, the SWAT team entered the “large, two-story house,” and began searching for the man, a sheriff’s sergeant said.

Anton Gutierrez, 33, was found hiding in the attic and was taken into custody by deputies using tear gas, sheriff’s Capt. Keith Swensson told reporters at the scene.

Gutierrez was booked on suspicion of residential burglary. Investigators will try to determine if he was involved in other similar crimes.
