A 25-year-old man was booked for assault with a deadly weapon Wednesday after barricading himself inside the family home and holding his father hostage in the unincorporated Westmont area, authorities said.
The man kept authorities at bay for five and a half hours before deputies forced their way into the residence and took the suspect into custody around 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Crystal Hernandez said. The hostage was released around 10:15 p.m., Hernandez said.
The hostage situation appeared to be the result of a domestic dispute.
A 911 call was made by a woman at a residence on 109th Place between Normandie and Vermont avenues around 5:35 p.m., sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Weber said. The woman told deputies her son was holding her husband in the house and was armed with a weapon, Weber said.
The suspect was being interviewed at the South Los Angeles sheriff’s station early today, Sgt. Joe Eguia said.
