A clumsy thief dropped his wallet as he stole a woman’s purse and sheriff’s deputies hope a photo being circulated today will result in his arrest.

The crime occurred Nov. 1 in the 19200 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country, the sheriff’s department reported.

Ismael Soto, 35, allegedly was running away after stealing the purse when the victim and a witness “observed a wallet containing the suspect’s ID fall from (his) pants pocket,” a sheriff’s statement said.

Detectives circulated a photo of Soto, described as Hispanic, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 270 pounds. He may have committed an unrelated crime involving “threats” in Canyon Country in September.

Soto may be living in the Sylmar or North Hollywood area, authorities said. Anyone knowing his whereabouts was urged to call Detective M. Barretto, (661) 255-1121; or Crime Stoppers, (800) 222-TIPS.
