A woman was in custody, and a man was being sought, for an attack on an Uber driver who was stabbed early Tuesday in the South Los Angeles area, police said.
The crime occurred about 3:45 a.m. in the 600 block of West 61st Street, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
Officers sent to the location on a report of a robbery found the man sitting in his vehicle with wounds to his face and neck, said LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
The two suspects had been riding the back seat. Officer Jack Richter noted that Uber drivers use their own vehicles and do not have the protection of back-seat separators that are usually found in taxi cabs.
“Our heart goes out to the victim,” Uber spokeswoman Eva Behrend said. “We are working to gather more information about this incident, and stand ready to work with authorities and help them in any way we can.”
The name of the suspect in custody was not immediately available, nor did authorities release the victim’s identity.
