The Coroner’s Office Saturday identified a 29-year-old homeless man who was gunned down during a drive-by shooting in Compton.
The fatal shooting took place just after 9 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of East Elm Street and Poinsettia Avenue, according to sheriff’s Deputy Guillermina Saldana.
The shooting victim was identified as Alfredo Buenobaca, said Coroner’s Investigator Joyce Kato.
Kato said Buenobaca was homeless and had no place of residence.
According to sheriff’s homicide detectives, Buenobaca was crossing Poinsettia Avenue when a car came to a stop, the passenger in the front seat exited and fired at him, hitting him once in the chest. The gunman then got back into the car, and the driver sped away heading south on Poinsettia.
No description of the getaway car or its occupants was available, according to the department. A motive for the attack was unknown.
Buenobaca was pronounced dead at the scene, Saldana said.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the shooting death to call (323) 890-5500.
