A fire that extensively damaged a tailor’s shop on the edge of the downtown fashion district Saturday has been ruled suspicious.
“Arson investigators were requested to the scene and they utilized their K-9 unit, as well as took samples, and deemed it (the fire) suspicious. But the fire remains under active investigation,” said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott said.
The blaze in the 1400 block of South Santee Street was reported at 2:35 a.m., Scott said.
A videographer at the scene said the building was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, with flames 20-30-feet high pushing through the roof.
The greater alarm blaze took 80 firefighters 50 minutes to knock down, Scott said. The bulk of the fire was kept to one unit, and the adjacent two units sustained some smoke damage. No injuries were reported.
The financial loss was still being calculated, he said.
